Make a Custom Name Sign in 20 Minutes with Your Laser

I make a painted, laser-cut custom name sign in about 20 minutes, a project that works well if you’re just getting started with your laser.

A custom name sign is a great beginner laser project, and this one takes me about 20 minutes from start to finish. I go through designing the sign, painting the wood and cutting out the letters.

First, I cut the wood to size and give it two coats of spray paint. Then I use the laser to engrave and cut out the name.

I’m using a Monport 80W CO2 laser for this one. For bigger signs, you’d need something with more capacity, like an xTool P3 with the conveyor attachment. Whatever you use, test your settings and get to know how your material behaves.

Make it your own with names, colors or whatever fits. I also share some tips on setting up shop and getting more confident with your laser.
