Connecting your Monport K40 laser to Lightburn the easy way

I walk through connecting a Monport K40 CO2 laser to LightBurn, from picking the COM port to running a material test grid.

Getting your Monport K40 talking to LightBurn can feel confusing if you’re new to lasers, so I walk through it step by step to get you up and running.

I set up LightBurn by picking the right COM port and machine settings, run the homing sequence and test moving the laser head to make sure the motors are working. Then I show how to run a material test grid to dial in power and speed.

Heads up: my K40 has had a few modifications, so the inside of yours may look different. I also talk about the power limits of CO2 lasers and the absolute and current position modes in LightBurn.

It’s a pretty straightforward process once you see it done. Once you’re connected, you can start experimenting with designs and materials and look at modifications as you get more comfortable.
