This is my unboxing and review of the xTool S1 40W. The big thing that caught my attention is the Class I safety certification, which means you can run it without safety glasses, plus automatic air assist and curved surface engraving.
I go through the setup and then put it to work on walnut, plywood, leather and slate so you can see the engraving and cutting results on each one. I found it easy to use, and it handled a nice range of materials.
Because it’s enclosed and portable, it’s something you could take on location, and it feels like a more complete package than earlier diode lasers I’ve used. That’s why I asked whether it might be the king of diode lasers.
If you’re looking for a portable, easy-to-use laser that can handle a lot of different materials, I think the S1 is worth a look.
