Both of these lasers are labeled 40W, but a Monport K40 CO2 laser and an xTool 40W diode laser are very different machines at different prices. I wanted to see how they actually compare.
I tested both on black acrylic, leather, plywood Christmas ornaments, plywood cutouts and slate. I also ran clear acrylic on the Monport and tumblers on the xTool, and I point out differences in speed and quality along the way.
The xTool can’t really handle clear or white acrylic, which is part of the tradeoff for its lower price. The Monport did better with masked plywood engraving, while the xTool was the better pick for leather hat patches.
Which one is right really comes down to what you want to make and what you want to spend. The xTool is the cheaper way in, and the Monport does better on certain materials, like clear acrylic.
